Privilege and its Impact on Coaching Practice 11 May , 03:00 PM Singapore Register Now
This webinar examines coaching from an intersectional perspective and explores how our awareness of different types of social privileges can help us improve the quality of our coaching.
When coaching someone, it is important to consider how privilege can affect our practice and lead us down an unproductive path if they remain unchecked.
Privilege refers to the advantages enjoyed by particular groups of people that are not accessible to everyone. Examples include gender, race/ethnicity, socio-economic status, education level, etc.
Therefore, having an intersectional perspective when coaching is essential to provide effective and equitable support for all your clients. This means understanding the different forms of privilege in any situation and being aware of potential power imbalances between you and the person being coached. Additionally, we must be mindful of our unconscious biases - prejudice in favour of or against one thing, person, or group compared with another, usually in a way considered unfair.
Taking the time to reflect on these concepts and strive towards an intersectional perspective will enable us to provide more equitable spaces for our clients - allowing everyone to experience equal growth opportunities.
